CertainTeed Hosts Groundbreaking for Plant Expansion

Posted November 7, 2022

CertainTeed hosted a groundbreaking for the expansion of their Granville County facility on Friday, November 4. The expansion more than double CertainTeed’s already substantial local footprint as one of the leading manufacturers of construction materials in the United States. County, city, and state officials marked the occasion along with officials from CertainTeed and its corporate parent Saint-Gobain.

Earlier this year, the North Carolina Department of Commerce announced that CertainTeed had received a Building Reuse grant of $250,000 to renovate an existing 326,000 square foot building as well as a One NC Grant of $125,000 for their Glass Mat expansion. The expansion will include an investment of over $118 million in Granville County to build and operate the new Glass Mat facility on land adjoining the existing campus on CertainTeed Drive in Oxford. CertainTeed has committed to creating thirty-seven new jobs with an average annual wage of $45,096 in return for the grants from the NC Department of Commerce that both include a 5% local match by Granville County.

Speaking at the event were Granville County Board of Commissioners Chair Tony Cozart, NC Secretary of Commerce Machelle Baker Sanders, City of Oxford Mayor Jackie Sergent, Vice-President and General Manager of Certainteed Roofing Carmen Bodden, and General Manager of Certainteed Glass Mat Pedro Romero.

“CertainTeed’s success echoes the success of Granville County,” said Commissioner Cozart. “CertainTeed and Saint-Gobain are not just local industry leaders; they are truly a global company. CertainTeed has shown a commitment to Oxford and Granville County for over four decades. This expansion will now solidify that commitment for years to come. We know CertainTeed will grow responsibly and make a commitment to produce high quality goods in an environmentally sustainable way to grow our local economy and protect our natural resources. We are thrilled to see how our county can cultivate growth for CertainTeed and Saint-Gobain for decades to come.”

CertainTeed has produced roofing and other construction materials since its founding in 1904 and opened its Oxford production facility in 1978. CertainTeed is headquartered in Malvern, Pennsylvania just outside of Philadelphia. CertainTeed is a wholly owned subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, which specializes in manufacturing light construction materials around the world. Saint-Gobain has a presence is 76 countries and employs over 166,000 people. They are headquartered in the Paris suburb of Courbevoie, France.
