At the Board of Commissioners regular meeting held on Monday, October 17, Commissioners recognized the service of Michael “Mike” Allen to Granville County as a member of the Veterans Affairs Committee and to his country as a veteran of the United States Navy.
Allen served in the Navy from 1980 to 1989 and has served on the Veterans Affairs Committee since 2016. He was chair of the 2018 Veterans Appreciation Event, served as the committee’s Vice-Chair from 2019 – 2022, and was elected to the position of committee chair in March 2022.
Board of Commissioners Vice-Chair Russ May and Commissioner Zelodis Jay presented the proclamation to Allen and noted the quiet, dignified, and selfless character that led Allen to a life of service to his country and now his local community.
