Granville County is proud to participate in Operation Green Light for Veterans. The initiative takes place throughout the month of October and continues through Veterans Day (November 11).
Show support for these men and women by installing a green light at your home or business. Many local and online retailers carry green bulbs for this initiative. Help us make Granville County glow green!
Operation Green Light seeks to aid Veterans as they make their transition from Military to civilian life. Transitioning Veterans are at a much higher risk of mental health emergencies, including suicide, during their first year after Military service. Operation Green Light helps to raise awareness for this issue and show that Granville County is a safe and welcoming place for individuals taking this significant and stressful step into civilian life.
At the October 3 meeting of the Granville County Board of Commissioners, Veterans Services Officer Christopher Dethmers spoke about the importance of assisting Veterans that have chosen Granville County as their home. “Let’s make sure that lighting our homes, businesses, and government facilities green is just the first step we take in assisting these Veterans,” said Dethmers. “Initiatives like Operation Green Light help show our Veterans that they have support, but the hard work comes with making sure they have access to the services, benefits, and employment that they have earned through their service.”
Commissioner Tim Karan presented a proclamation for the Veterans Services Office showing the Board of Commissioners support for Operation Green Light and encouraged residents and business owners to buy at least one green light to install at their homes or business.
