Commissioners issue proclamation for parade anniversary

In observance of the 35th year of the Grassy Creek Christmas Parade, held annually in the northern area of Granville County, Granville County Commissioners issued a proclamation in an opening ceremony held on Saturday, Dec. 14.  What started as a small, rural parade has since grown to become a unique and creative community-wide event that is highly anticipated each year.

The proclamation, read by Board of Commissioners Chairman David Smith alongside fellow Commissioners and special guests, marked the history of the event and its significance to the community. This year’s parade was bittersweet as a fire destroyed local landmark Weary’s Supply just days before the event. The store had been an integral part of the parade since its inception.

Commissioners extended “sincere congratulations” as it honored the Grassy Creek Community on the anniversary of the 35th annual Christmas parade.
