County Manager attends NCACC Planning Retreat

Granville County Manager Michael Felts recently joined fellow members of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) Joint Risk Management Agency Board of Trustees for a Strategic Planning Retreat. The two-day work session took place in New Hanover County and included a series of business meetings and strategic planning workshops to strengthen NCACC’s risk pools.

A “risk pool” is a group of individuals whose insurance costs are combined to calculate premiums, with a goal of securing better insurance rates and coverage plans. During the annual retreat, the Board of Trustees analyzed the benefits of investing in special projects to reduce risk exposure for pool members through training, supplemental benefits coverage, legal guidance and other risk management resources. The Board also discussed trends within the pools and opportunities to offer additional programs to enhance safety in law enforcement and automobile use.

In addition, the Board heard updates on relevant case law and recent legislative developments during the 2019 Long Session of the General Assembly, as well as receiving financial and actuarial reports on NCACC’s Risk Pools, which showed favorable financial results in the 2018/2019 coverage year.

The NCACC Joint Risk Management Agency is the largest provider of risk management services to county governments in North Carolina, and is managed and operated by the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners.
