New app introduced to promote agri-tourism

Agriculture and agri-tourism are important to North Carolina and to the region, and the new ‘Visit NC Farms’ app will help promote locally-owned farms that do business with the public. In a breakfast meeting held on July 27 at the Granville County Expo and Convention Center in Oxford, the app was introduced, along with information about the importance of bringing in potential customers from outside the region and helping these new customers find the local, unique farms they are interested in.

Speakers included Annie Baggett of the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Gena Stephens of Carlee Farms in Granville County and Jack Pleasant of Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm of Person County. All spoke of ways to position local farms as “go to” destinations.

The ‘Visit NC Farms’ app will help visitors find websites, information and locations of local North Carolina farms, as well as the activities, products and services they offer.

Additional meetings will be held in Person, Franklin, Vance and Warren Counties. The events are hosted by NC Cooperative Extension, the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the Kerr Tar Regional Council of Governments.
