National Night Out Against Crime is Aug. 7

On Tuesday, Aug. 7, members of local law enforcement and residents come together to promote and celebrate safe neighborhoods during National Night Out (NNO) Against Crime. NNO is held nationwide with thousands of participating communities joining forces to raise awareness about crime and drug prevention. This event is intended to not only educate citizens on drug and crime awareness, but to generate support for and assistance in anti-crime efforts. Strengthening police/community relations sends a direct message to criminals, letting them know that communities are organized and fighting back!

Granville County events are being held in Oxford and in Creedmoor, with Oxford’s NNO being held on the campus of the Masonic Home for Children from 5 until 8 p.m. and Creedmoor’s scheduled for South Granville High School from 6 until 9 p.m.  There will be hot dogs, DJ music, and fun activities for all ages, as well as educational displays, exhibits and demonstrations. Public safety vehicles will also be on display from local police departments, the Sheriff’s office, EMS, fire departments, the highway patrol and more.

Residents across the county are encouraged to turn off the television, leave troubles behind and come out to spend a fun-filled evening with their fellow neighbors, family, and law enforcement officers.

The Masonic Home for Children is located at 600 College Street in Oxford and South Granville High School is located at 701 North Crescent Drive in Creedmoor.

This is the 35th anniversary of the national event.
