Local Students Participate in the 2017 Area IV Soil and Water Envirothon

The 2017 Area IV Soil and Water Envirothon was held  at the Johnston County N.C. Agricultural Center on April 24th. Granville County was represented by two teams from Granville Central High School. The top seven teams will go on to compete for the state titles in late April for two days at the Cedarock Park, in Burlington.

The Area IV Envirothon program is a hands-on environmental and natural resource competition for middle and high school students. The program will test student teams on their knowledge and awareness of environmental issues. The Envirothon curriculum provides comprehensive hands-on training in ecology and natural resource management while emphasizing teamwork. Areas of study incorporate 4 major subjects: Aquatics, Forestry, Soils/Land Use and Current Environmental Issues.

The Envirothon program helps develop environmentally aware youth to be able to assume future leadership roles. Many students go on to pursue careers in environmental and natural resource management. For more information on next year’s Area IV Enviorothon contact Warren Daniel with the Granville Soil Water District or visit the website http://www.ncarea4envirothon.org/ .
