Disc Golf Course

The Granville Athletic Park is proud to host an 18-hole disc golf course.  The course is in its final stages of installation with pathway grooming and other maintenance anticipated to be completed in late 2022.

The disc golf course at the Granville Athletic Park offers a memorable playing experience in an area rich in Granville County history.  The course is aptly named “The Incinerator” since the site where the park was eventually built had originally been selected in 1990 by the State of North Carolina as a proposed location to build a toxic waste incinerator.  Learn more about the Granville Athletic Park History here.

Design and Construction Community Volunteers
Disc golf first came to the GAP in 2018 thanks to the efforts of Granville County native David Nicholson and a group of dedicated volunteers.  With the assistance of the GAP parks and grounds crew, the volunteers initially built nine holes with an additional nine planned for after the completion of the GAP Phase III project.

The volunteer group completed the final nine holes in 2022 with minimal County funding support.  Jeff Schons, a local graphics designer, also created a course overview map and individual tee signs for which $200 sponsorships were offered to local businesses in early 2022.  The sponsorships sold out after only a few weeks.

These volunteers have succeeded in creating a destination for disc golf enthusiasts from across the state in a uniquely themed course that pays tribute to the rich history behind the park’s development.  Volunteers are pictured above receiving recognition for their outstanding service and efforts at the Granville County Board of Commissioners meeting held November 21, 2022.

Hole SponsorshipsThe Incinerator Hole Sign Example
In the spring of 2022, sponsorship opportunities were made available for individuals and/or businesses to sponsor one of the eighteen holes at the course.  Granville County responded enthusiastically and all eighteen sponsorships were claimed in record time.  Thank you for your support!
Following a period of design and proofing, the signs will be ordered and installed on the site.

Reminders of Terms and Conditions of the Disc Golf Course Sponsorships

  • Each sponsorship includes company name and logo displayed on an 8½ x 12” placard at one disc golf hole for a two-year term.
  • Sponsorships are guaranteed for a maximum of two years. After the initial two years, continued sponsorship is dependent on the life cycle of each sign.
  • Weather degradation, vandalism, or other damage necessitating replacement after the initial two-year term will require a new sponsorship.
  • Timing for sign installation is solely at the discretion of park staff and significantly dependent on sign fabrication and delivery.
