The Granville County Department of Social Services advises that two new initiatives have been introduced for public assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Along with economic assistance through traditional sources, these two initiatives have been put into place to assist families with energy bills and with food purchases for children.
LIEAP supplement: A one-time supplement is being made available through the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services for all households that were approved for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) during the 2019-2020 application period. P-EBT program: In addition, North Carolina has received approval from the USDA to initiate a new Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program to assist families impacted by school closings during the COVID-19 pandemic. These funds are available to help purchase food for children. To find out more about the P-EBT program, please click here.
To safely serve customers who need assistance, the Department of Social Services is accepting applications for Food and Nutrition assistance, Medicaid, Work First Family Assistance or other DSS Services online, by phone or by mail.
Effective March 31, 2020, in-person services are by appointment only, limiting persons in the lobby and in the building to follow social distancing guidelines. Most interviews will be conducted by phone.
Effective May 8, 2020, during in-person appointments, visitors are respectfully asked to:
- Inform staff if they are sick;
- Wear a face covering and maintain a six-foot physical distance;
- Wash hands prior to meetings (or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer, if available);
- Not shake hands or touch individuals during visit, without express consent.
