National Foster Care Month

Posted May 24, 2022

May is National Foster Care Month, when we take the time to acknowledge foster parents, family members, volunteers, mentors, policymakers, child welfare professionals, and other members of the community who help children and youth in foster care find permanent homes and connections.

This is also a time to think about our country’s obligation of ensuring a bright future for the more than 407,000 children and youth in foster care across the United States, while also celebrating those who make a meaningful difference in the lives of these children.

This year’s theme is prioritizing kinship care. By maintaining familial and cultural relationships, we can minimize the trauma experienced by children who enter the foster care system.
