Animal Control Advisory Committee

The Animal Control Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday, September 14, 2017 has been rescheduled for Thursday, September 28^th.  The meeting will be held at the Granville Expo Center at 7:00 pm.

Open Enrollment for Medicare Parts C & D

Your health needs change from year to year and the benefits and costs of your health plan may change each year too.  That’s why it’s important to evaluate your Medicare choices every year.  The Annual Election Period is the one time of year when all people with Medicare can review and/or change their Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Medicare prescription drug (Part D) plans for 2018.  Open enrollment begins October 15 and ends on December 7.  If you wnat to review your plan for 2018 please call the Granville County Senior Center in Oxford at (919)693-1930 to schedule an appointment during open enrollment time.  We have well-trained SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) counselors who are able to assist you with changing your plan.  

Sept. 11 Hurricane Irma Update from Emergency Management

9/11/2017 @ 10:15AM – Hurricane Irma Update. The storm has been downgraded to a tropical storm, but continues to put out heavy rains, and damaging winds in its pathway. As of 8AM, the center of circulation was still in northern Florida and headed through Georgia, Alabama and on to Tennessee before completely collapsing. Over the next several hours, lasting throughout the night and into tomorrow, our area will begin to see rainfall and some breezy conditions, even though the storm’s track will not come directly over us. During this period of time, there may still be some dead or weakened trees that will cause problems and some spotty power outages as a result. We do not anticipate widespread damages or impacts in North-Central North Carolina. Please report power outages to your power company. If you have a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 to report it. Unless conditions warrant, this will be the last update on Hurricane Irma.

Sept. 8 Hurricane Irma Update

9/8/2017 @ 8:00AM – The forecast track of Hurricane Irma has taken a westward turn overnight, taking the storm directly across Florida, into Georgia and toward the Western part of North Carolina before becoming sub-tropical in Tennessee. Although this latest forecast is good news for our area and all of Central and Eastern North Carolina, please don’t let your guard down just yet as there is still plenty of time for the storm’s track to shift back to the East, bringing us back into the danger area. Even if the storm continues on the forecast track, we may see some effects in the form of heavier rainfall and gusty winds locally. Please stay tuned to local television and radio sources for the latest information in your immediate area.
