Granville County Environmental Programs
Chapter 130A of the North Carolina General Statutes requires counties to provide adequate disposal for municipal solid waste and recycling in accordance with the goals established in the County’s Solid Waste Management plan. Granville County achieves this through two methods: (1) operation of seven fully staffed convenience/recycling centers, (2) operation of a Subtitle D Municipal Solid Waste Landfill (MSW), and (3) negotiation and maintenance of a collection franchise that ensures the availability of residential, commercial and industrial collection services at a uniform rate throughout the County.
Granville County opened a the MSW landfill in May of 2013. The landfill is located at 6584 Landfill Road, Oxford, NC adjacent to the construction and demolition landfill. It is designed to take care of Granville County’s disposal needs for the next 100 years! A special liner consisting of several barriers keeps harmful pollutants out of the groundwater to protect the environment.
