Granville County Veterans Office is temporarily closed

The Granville County Veterans Services Office will be closed until mid-July. Below you will find information to assist you until the office re-opens.

 

To check on the status of your claim or for healthcare or most other questions, the Veterans’ Affairs (VA) customer service number is 1-800-827-1000. It is recommended that all callers dial before 10:30 a.m.

 

If you need immediate Veteran Service Officer assistance with the following issues, please reach out to the State Veteran Service Center in Garner at 984-232-7060 and let them know you are calling from Granville County:

  • Compensation claim
  • Pension claim
  • Survivors Pension and/or Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC)
  • Aid and Attendance
  • Unemployability claim
  • Veteran headstone and marker
  • Notice of Disagreement or Appeal
  • Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Education
  • Home loan
  • Others

 

The State Veterans Service Center is located at 315 Bellaris Court in Garner, 27529. 

 

For license plates, contact the Vance Count Veterans Service Office at 252-438-4619. It is recommended that you call before making the trip to ensure that you have the correct information. (The Vance County VSO should only be contacted for license plates.)

 

Self service assistance for Veterans and their family members is also available.

To request your DD214 (discharge papers), personnel records or military medical records, you can fill out a Standard Form 180 and mail it to the appropriate address at Department of Veterans Affairs, Evidence Intake Center, PO Box 4444, Janesville, WI 53547-4444.

 

To initiate a new compensation claim (a condition caused by military service and wartime veteran), fill out a VA 21-0966 (Intent to File) and mail it to this address: Department of Veterans Affairs, Evidence Intake Center, PO Box 4444, Janesville, WI 53547-4444. Check Compensation in box 13. This form will lock your claim into the date this form is received by the VA. You will get your back pay if your claim is approved. When the Granville VSO returns, contact this office at 919-693-1484 for an appointment and we can complete your claim. Before mailing in the VA 21-0966, please remember to make a copy for your records and bring this with you to your appointment. If you need assistance making a copy, please free free to come by the Senior Center, 107 Lanier Street in Oxford, and a staff member will help you.

 

To initiate a new pension claim (veteran non-service related condition or spouse of deceased veteran) fill out a VA 21-0966 (Intent to File) and mail to the below address. Check Pension for veteran or Survivors Pension for spouse/dependent in box 13. This form will lock your claim into the date this form is received by the VA. You will get back pay if your claim is approved. When the Granville County Veterans Service Officer returns, contact this office for appointment at 919-693-1484 and we can complete your claim. Before mailing in the VA 21-0966, please remember to make a copy for your records and bring this with you to your appointment. This is for veterans only (no dependents). You will need your DD214, Medicare Card, Medical Insurance Cards and last year’s income (taxes).
