The Granville Soil and Water District offers technical assistance and cost-sharing for applying Best Management Practices. Wayne Overton, from the Huntsboro Community, applied for cost-share through the North Carolina Agriculture Cost Share Program to plant orchard grass on highly erodible cropland. This program cost-shares up to 75% on many practices and offers incentive payments on others to reduce erosion and the transport of nutrients to our waterways. A retired farmer, Overton is planning to cut the orchard grass for hay. He also rented the District’s no-till planter, available to anyone in the county, for a cost of $10 per acre. For more information on cost-share or the no-till drill contact Warren Daniel at 919-693-4603 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
